One-day CIRCUIT / with chauffeur driven off-road vehicle
The Drâa valley starts from Agdz, and extends for more than 200 km, borded by its splendid palm grove and its succession of kasbahs.
The road coasts the Drâa river, which is composed by the waters of the oueds Ouarzazate and Dadès, coming down from the High Atlas. It digged its riverbed through the Anti-Atlas. It would be a quite a long river if its capricious waters would really reach the ocean, but nowadays it doesn’t happen anymore ; its waters get often lost somewhere in the sands… |

From Ouarzazate there are about 160 km to Zagora, then another 30 km to reach the dune of Tinfou. de Tinfou. Just note that Zagora and the dune of Tinfou do not represent the real Sahara ; for that you have to carry on to Mhamid, and, if possible, even further, just to the dunes of Chgaga, where you can sleep in a bivouac. If you don’t have more than one day to spend in this region, this trip will give you a small taste of the desert.
The dune of Tinfou is situated near the road and mesures 120 m at his top and has a surface of 4 ha. This site is highly frequented by tourists in high season – it is sometimes literally overrun. If you have more time at your disposal, it is preferable to plan a 2-days-trip which gives you the opportunity to see the « real » desert. |
